What is NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new initiative by the Australian government aimed at providing support to people with disabilities, as well as their families and carers. This scheme is funded by the Australian government, with a portion of the funding raised through the Medicare levy. This means that all taxpayers contribute to the scheme.

Are you eligible for NDIS?

We have created a simple NDIS checklist that outlines the eligibility criteria necessary for individuals seeking NDIS support. Whether you are an individual with a disability, a family member, or a support worker, this checklist will provide you with the information needed to determine eligibility for NDIS support.

What disability support services are available on the NDIS?

The NDIS provides support to help with the day-to-day impact caused by psychosocial disability, the disability that may arise from a mental health condition. The NDIS can provide funding to purchase supports aimed at increasing independence, inclusion, and social and economic participation.

The kinds of support the NDIS might fund include:

  • support for daily personal activities and household tasks
  • transport to enable someone to participate in the community, social activities, work or education
  • help for someone to get and keep a job
  • development of a behaviour support plan.
What can I use NDIS Funding for?

You can use NDIS Funding for various types of assistance, as well as products, investments, or services to improve your life.

Certain investments are funded by the NDIS, including home and vehicle modifications.

Additional services and products are available through NDIS to improve your life. This includes funding for better living arrangements, as well as for improving your relationships, health, learning, life choices, and daily living.

Will all NDIS participants receive the same support?

The short answer is no. Everyone has different goals and situations, the NDIS supports participants based on their goals so the support will differ from participant to participant. We can connect you with your local plan manager and support coordinator. During your planning meeting, your NDIS Planner will work with you to determine what supports are “reasonable and necessary” for you to achieve your goals. As part of this process, you can also request to have a plan management who will help you claim and pay your invoices covered under your NDIS plan.

What is your NDIS plan?

Your NDIS plan is an essential document that contains the following information:

* Your circumstances and goals: The plan will detail your type of special needs, lifestyle, work or study situation, and the short-term and long-term goals you wish to achieve through the NDIS.

* The supports you need: Based on your specific situation and goals, the plan will list the various supports and services you require, such as therapy, personal care, domestic services, employment support, assistive technology, and accommodation support.

* The funding NDIS will provide you: The plan will clearly state the amount of funding NDIS will provide you to pay for the necessary supports and services. These funds will be allocated according to your needs and goals to ensure you receive appropriate support.

Golden Living can provide comprehensive assistance in developing your NDIS plan, helping you create a thorough, reasonable, and tailored plan that meets your needs. We will fully support you to ensure your NDIS journey is smooth and effective, ultimately helping you achieve your personal goals.

What is NDIS plan management?

NDIS plan management refers to how you manage your NDIS funds and choice of service providers. You can choose to manage your NDIS plan in 3 ways: Agency-managed, Plan-managed, and Self-managed, each with its advantages.

  1. Agency-managed: The NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) will manage your funds and service providers on your behalf. Under this option, you can only use NDIS-registered service providers.
  2. Plan-managed: You can choose a registered Plan Manager to manage your NDIS funds and make payments to service providers on your behalf. Plan management allows you to use both registered and unregistered service providers, giving you more choices.
  3. Self-managed: You have complete control over your NDIS funds, choosing and managing service providers yourself, including both registered and unregistered providers. This option offers the most flexibility but also requires you to take on more responsibility.

Golden Living is a registered NDIS service provider, which means we can deliver services to you regardless of your chosen plan management option. As a registered provider, we meet NDIS quality and safety standards, ensuring that we deliver high-quality support and services to you.

Furthermore, if you choose plan management or self-management, we can provide additional support:

* We can help you understand and choose the plan management option that suits you best.

* Our team can work closely with your Plan Manager or directly with you to ensure you receive the services and supports you need.

* We can offer advice on budget management and financial reporting to help you effectively manage your NDIS funds.

Regardless of your chosen plan management option, Golden Living will fully support you to ensure you make the most of your NDIS funds and receive high-quality services and support tailored to your needs.
